A lot like what you describe in Norway. I might add that I very much live in a melting pot myself. Most kids in the neighborhood are not of Norwegian origin. Actually I don't think any of them are. My own kids are only half-Norwegian.

Despite this we don't have the culture you describe in terms of eating. We ask kids if they want to eat here. I actually got a bit more insistent after writing this article. But as I have noticed every time. Nobody wants to, because it is simply not what is expected and what you do here. Doesn't matter if you are of Pakistani, Vietnamese, Thai or Norwegian origin.

We do have kids over for eating but then it is pre-planned. A spontaneous dinner or lunch is rare to non-existent.
