All these deaths is a legacy of slavery, discrimination and racism over several hundred years. You don’t solve this problem by treating every black person as a potential criminal which must be harassed and beaten until he falls into line. The police state approach, and locking up as many block people as possible has been a monumental failure. But Americans still refuse to try approaches successfully applied elsewhere such as reducing inequality, rehabilitate instead of punishing.

Instead all we get is arguments that amount to: America is so diverse that the only sensible way to deal with minorities is to beat them up until they fall in line.

A policy about as successful as banning alcohol or the war on drugs. America cannot stop believing in the big stick, no matter how much of a failure it is. It is like America’s failed military invasions: It didn’t work out bombing Vietnam back to the Stone Age, so let us try some new countries.
