Anyone can become a toxic monopolist of course. But when Intel has done from say 90% of the market share to 85% of the market share or whatever the numbers are today, it is premature to worry about AMD abusing their current standing, and start cheering on Intel to get back into business.

No, what I am saying is: Let us hope Intel slides further down into a whole, until they are more equal in size to AMD or other players. At that point we may want to consider cheering on a rivival at Intel.

My point is that there is no point in cheering on whomever still holds a very dominant position. I am not suggesting AMD is somehow inherently good and will always be. I am simply remarking on the value of having more equal sized companies in the market. And we cannot get that if we the top dog never fails for very long.

So lets hope Intel keeps screwing up until they have a much smaller market share. We will all be better off for it. It may even open the door to other competitors which are neither Intel nor AMD. In fact in some ways we may regard Apple as one of those. If Intel had done an amazing job, I highly doubt we would have seen the release of the Apple M1.

It is the failure of Intel, which opened the door for alternative architectures such as Apple Silicon.
