Are they against skilled immigration though? Because that makes some difference. What is unique about the US is the strong pull on skilled immigrants. For other rich countries such as my native Norway getting unskilled immigrants is a piece of cake. Nobody struggles with that. Getting skilled immigrants is much more challenging.
