As a Nordic socialist I must say this is a damning exposure of so much of what is wrong with the American social model. The irony is even more stark by the fact that this is a Bible belt. Somehow taking care of people becomes second to catering to corporations and their profits in one of the richest countries in the world. I lived in the US and liked a lot about the US but I could never accept the values. It was shocking to see the profound inequality. All these people living in enormous McMansions while others struggled to just pay their gas or food. I was a die-hard capitalism fanboy before I came to the US. My American experience cured me of all my naive delusions about the virtues of capitalism.
