As far as I understand it is theoretically possible to achieve this. It is primarily an engineering challenge. A very difficult one though.

But yeah it may not get affordable. Or it may get affordable but that could happen many decades AFTER we got the first reactor working.

Either way I think it would be stupid for people to discount simpler and boring technology for power generation because one is chasing some dream technology which one believes will solve all problems.
