China is building a lot of coal plants because they are unable to scale up nuclear power fast enough. It is a complicated technology with complex supply chain requirements. I am not against China building nuclear power plants, but they wil likely need to rely a lot of renewable energy as well to avoid building so many coal plants.

I think it is more likely that they will scale up renewables faster. It is simpler technology to scale. They already build much more renewable capacity than nuclear capacity.

Keep in mind that China is building nuclear as fast as they can. It is not the will to build which it the problem. It is the ability to build.

Nuclear power is slow and difficult to build. Unless we develop SMRs which can be mass produced cheaply and quickly, I doubt nuclear power can make that much impact on emissions in time.
