Don’t care about the iPads and iPhones as they already work great but this news really gets me excited about what Macs based on Apple Silicon will will look like.

I see a golden opportunity for Apple to muscle their way into the PC market in particular in the laptop segment. Apple silicon is going to give a big performance and power usage advantage over Intel offerings.

The PC world will struggle with a counter offensive because a coordinated transition to ARM in the PC world will be exceptionally hard to pull off. Apple has succeeded with hardware transitions twice before. Microsoft has never managed to pull it off. Windows on Itanium, Alpha and ARM have all flopped.
