I have tried to get off Twitter (no, I don’t care to call it X) half-heartedly for over a year. A few days ago I made the final step. It started before that with me deleting my Twitter app. Yet, I had not deleted the actual account, so I still used Twitter while in front of my computer.

Several things held me back from exiting Twitter.

  1. I had a decent following that I didn’t want to have to build up again. Not great, but 2.5K isn’t nothing. I thought it was useful if promoting work, content or other things in the future.
  2. Many people on Twitter I came to like.
  3. The dopamine hits of Twitter debates.

But over time I came to realize Twitter was not a healthy place to be. I had noticed I had started getting more short-tempered and I am generally a very chill guy who isn’t easy to anger. I have been married close to 20 years and I never really had a heated argument with my wife. Some people have that every day. I shouted at my kids perhaps once or twice in their life. My oldest is sixteen now. To me, it has always been a sense of pride to be able to tackle issues with a calm voice.
