I am not talking about what has been happening but what is happening now.

The West is demonstrating its strength in unity and the autocrats are demonstrating that they were never as strong as it seemed.

While individual Western countries may loose ground in relative terms, what you ignore is that the West is constantly expanding more countries want to become part of the Western liberal order. Ukraine is the latest example of that.

Yes, there has been some setbacks, but my point is that current events demonstrate the beginning of a new trend. Economic problems have been caused in Europe by COIVD19, but Europe may get through this better than China in the end thanks to superior vaccines.

The main problem ahead is if we insist on buying a lot less Russian gas and oil then prices will get pushed up an negatively affect economic growth.

Short term that hurts, but it also will help the transition to a greener future, which must be done sooner or later anyway.
