I can get some sense of Chinese views though by listening to English speaking Chinese. I have worked and studied with Chinese people so I get some idea of how people think about stuff.
I wrote this article more based interactions I have had with Chinese rather than by reading any official Chinese media.
But this is also about how China sees the West, and Chinese suffer the same problem as us. I don't know Chinese but most Chinese don't know anything besides English if they know a European language.
Thus Chinese views of the West tends to assume the West is equal to the US. I know that from friends who have traveled in China. If you look white, Chinese people assume your behavior, values and beliefs are American.
In fact I think both Americans and Chinese have a very American centric view of the West. And the US is starting to diverge so far away from Europe over the last years that I think the rest of us in Europe would prefer if we where left out. "The West" label is starting to make a lot less sense.
Most Europeans are not interested in some sort of major showdown with China. We are upset about how the US is trying to push NATO into an instrument against China. For us NATO was about defense in the North Atlantic. NATO should have nothing to do with China. The US is abusing its power as top dog, to set an agenda we never signed up for.
