I does matter when rapid population decline in one country causes turbulence and failure in that country and thus incapacity it. Solving climate changer requires functioning countries which can actually implement green reforms. A country facing a demographic disaster will not be able to implement green reforms.

The world does not end in 50 years. We would be in much worse shape than today, but so will we with a demographic disaster. The cure cannot be worse than the disease.
