I don't get your point. You can define your own political affiliations and beliefs. But how you are perceived by others such as whether people see you as in icon of a cause is not for you to decide.

North Korea calls itself democratic, but it is kind of irrelevant what they think. What matters is what the rest of us think.

Musk does not get to decide how is to be percieved by the rest of the world other than by doing actions and speaking workds which convince people that he is what he wants them to believe.

So no, what Musk thinks doesn't really matter. If he thinks he is superman that isn't going to make him superman.
