I don't think she should be condemned but I think it is fair to point out that she is wrong. But turning this into some kind of cruxification is wrong.
I don't really think this is about American "whites." And I also think this American atittude of dividing people's opinions and views based on skin color as a kind of toxic aspect of American culture. People talk about "white people think", or "black people think"...
How about people being more than their skin color? Among people of all skin colors you find a great diversity of opinions.
As a foreigner, I cannot say I see this particular view on race being unique to "white" Americans. I see this kind of view pushed by people of all skin colors and of different political persuation.
The contention between the left and the right in the US today does not seem to be about whether race is defined in terms of skin color or not. It seems to be more about which skin color people champion.
The American right seem to think whites are better than everybody else, while the American left often seem to think whites are worse than everybody else.
Both perspectives are racist in their own way. Of course... this is an utter simplification. There is of course a lot more nuance to the American debate on race. However there are certain perspectives which are more dominant than others.
