I don't think that is really relevant to the story I was trying to tell. This was about whether we as consumers would have been better or worse off without the IBM PC.

The business geninus of Bill Gates is not that particular relevant in this story. That Bill Gates was able to make a fortune on smart business deals isn't that relevant to how you as a consumer would have experienced the technology you use.

Commodore in contrast was terrible at business. But that doesn't change the fact that Amiga offered a superior user experience and features.

Edison was a better businessman (in part due to his rutlesness and immorality) than Tesla, but Tesla was the bigger scientific genius, and offered better solutions for the world. As with the PC, an alternative history where Tesla had had more success in the market would have looked better than the world we got where Edison was the winner.
