I don't think what she said should have called for suspension, or that it was some horrible thing to say. Yet it doesn't make it true what she said.
Listening to the segment, it is clear that she says that Holocoust could not be about racism because according to her it was just one white group discriminating against another white group.
This of course is not some unqiue thing Whoopi Goldber has invented. It is something that is becoming increasingly popular in the US, to define racism as only being about some hierarchy of white people at the top and everybody else at the bottom.
However this is a deeply non-historical and American centric view. Especially when talking about events happening outside of the US such as the Holocoust one should not apply contemporary American concepts of race onto the situation.
Race is a social construct and thus will mean different things at different historical periods as well as in different parts of the world.
Yet there is an attempt to define racism as only being about discrimination by white people against non-whites in contemporary America. That seems like a narrow-minded and ignorant viewpoint IMHO.
