I don’t use vim partly for the reasons alluded to here but I think many of the concepts and ideas in vim are quite clever. A compromise is to use Kakoune (kak) which is a sort of vim-like editor where you can more easily discover functionality. It is sort of vim made user friendly.

Personally I prefer something actually made for my operating system of choice. I use TextMate because it is kind of the philosophy of vim/Emacs but for macOS and the modern age. I have used TextMate for 20 years.
