I think the question which forms the title is a fair question though. As an advocat of social democracy I think I have a certain obligation to be able to answer the question.

Maybe a cultural differences here. I have seen many times that Americans react to journalists asking critical questions, thinking the questions are a reflection of the views of the journalist.

I think in Northern Europe it is pretty common to set the stage for a debate or discussion with such critical questions. The one asking the question is usually NOT agreeing with the premise of the question. They ask it because they want the person they interview to expose why it is a bad take.
