Is not all that this explained by evolution? Among all species the male does the dumb shit. In fact males exist primarily as a risk mitigation strategy for evolution. Surviving is risky. E.g. hunting an animal or testing if new food is safe. We men don’t carry children and don’t breast feed children. Thus we are the expendables. We do the dangerous stuff so that the mother and child can survive.

You see this e.g. from major accidents like Titanic. In a family, time he male member is most likely to sacrifice himself for the safety of the rest of the family. But men are not entirely stupid, because statistics show we don’t sacrifice for any women. I believe in the Titanic, more men survived in total because when their own family’s life was not on the line they would not sacrifice themselves.

I guess you could say men are not as idiot as one commonly believes or not as noble depending on your perspective.
