It doesn't need to cover all the needs. We are building up lots of alternative storage systems and new storage systems are being developed. Storage costs are falling much faster than nuclear power prices.

And there is also a huge untapped potential for European hydropower to be used as green batteries. Norway at the moment only exports a small amounts of power, due to limitations on transfer cables. But this is an ongoing debate to build more power cables.

Few are utilizing the fact that you could build pumping stations at hydropowerplants and refill reservoirs using powere from wind and solar.

You cannot snap your fingers and just make all this happen tomorrow. Building these systems take time, but way less time than building a modern nuclear power plant. Nuclear fans insist we must imagine a future with all sorts of magical advancements for nuclear power, while they demand that we must assume all other power sources remain static and have no developement. That is unrealistic.
