It is Not Racist to Have Empathy for Ukrainians

Is the outpouring of support for Ukraine different from the support of Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis suffering through war?

In the midst of the current war in Ukraine, there are dishonest pundits and writers, who are trying to cease on the opportunity to paint every westerner as a racist. Racism certainly exists in the West, but this time there is a novel spin on the accusations. Apparently empathy towards Ukrainians fleeing war is proof of Western racism. What!?

The argument is that nobody cared about Syrian, Iraqi, Afghanistan or Libya refugees. All I can say is that people have shockingly short memory. Is the famous line by Angela Merkel in 2015 forgotten?

Wir schaffen das

— Angela Merkel

It was uttered when Germany faced the challenge of accepting a million Syrian refugees. Other countries like Sweden accepted close to 100 000 Syrian refugees.
