It may not matter much who should get assigned the most blame. But I do think it matters who played a role in this.

I don't think it is easy to avoid this kind fo things from developing further or avoid this in the future, unless we in the West understand what role we played in this.

Maybe if we acknowledge that we could have done things different and that it is not exclusively up to Russia to get its act together then this could have been avoided.

We have to deal with reality. We have to deal with the Russia we have, not the Russia we wished we had.
