Kind of hard to keep up in this industry. You got to be selective. I am trying to make it as a content creator but as you say it is hard. Getting my Julia book out soon: https://www.manning.com/books/julia-as-a-second-language
But I don't have any illusions about making a lot of money from that. Julia isn't quite big enough yet. But I think Julia has potential as a sort of secret weapon for higher performance and productivity in making solution.
Of course now the whole picture is complicated further by AI tools. Now we got to look at whether the way to unlock higher productivity is in AI tools. I am not entirely convinced by what I have seen thus far, but I have also not spent enough time to learn how to use AI tools in an optimal fashion.
Some years ago it was possible to make a lot more money on Medium. I am trying to branch out to not depend too much on one media platform but it is really hard to build up a following on any platform. Especially when you don't have any natural inclinations towards marketing, like me ;-)
A key thing is to get mentioned at places like hacker news, reddit, slashdot, twitter etc. That can help drive a lot of traffic but getting attention either of those places is not always easy. Reddit doesn't let you post links to your own stuff more than say 1 out of 10 times or something, while Twitter efficiency relies on having a big following in Twitter... easier said than done.
