Also I think people often forget that the alternative to GMO is usually mutagensis, which means just random changes to genes. Obviously a controlled change of individual genes as GMO allows ought to be a lot safter than just randomly changing lots of genes.

But I think there are valid complaints from the GMO crowd. The problem isn’t the science, but the commercial aspect. When companies like Monsanto monopolize seeds, and patent crucial genes in living matter I think that is cause for concern.

The debate has to be divided into a debate about the science itself and the economic regulations surrounding, research and patents.
