Nobody is worshipping me as some kind of media icon, so my understanding of the media is kind of irrelevant in this discussion.

That you think you can look at the media as an engineer tells me you don't understand media either.

Understanding media requires understanding people. When you interact with your fellow human beings you don't interpret their needs, wants and emotions as an engineer. It is understood in a different manner from strict formalism.

Sure we can run statistics on all sorts of humans traits, but there is also a need to have an intuition about people. Intuition is what set e.g. Steve Jobs apart from your typical engineer driven computer company.

In my time in software development I have notice all too often how engineers really don't understand the human condition very well. You see that reflected in the design of products and user interfaces. I have spent a lot of time in my career trying to get engineers to understand topics like usability and design.

This is much more in the realm of psychology than in engineering.
