Now you confuse me. Why do you talk about Spanish people? I was referring to the Japanese.

I didn't say you cannot express that you like cake in Japanese, rather you would not say the literal translation "I like cake." Instead you say "cake, like." The latter means "I like cake" in Japanese in the right context. Japanese speech is very context sensitive.
