People keep pointing this out every single time EV sales in Norway gets talked about. Yet it is total BS. You don’t need oil money to implement any of the Norwegian EV incentives.
The key difference between EVs and gasoline cars in Norway is that gasoline cars are heavily taxed and EVs are not. You don’t need oil money to tax gasoline cars more. EVs are sold with subsidies in the US, not in Norway.
Median income is lower in Norway than the US, so Americans should be more able to afford an EV than Norwegians. Norwegians however are more incentivized to do so because gasoline costs a lot more and gasoline cars are much more expensive.
The “Norway is a oil country so they can afford it” shtick is just an excuse to not do anything. Oil industry makes up 14% of GDP. In the US it is 9% Not as big difference as people would think.
