So what if iPads, hyperloops and spaceships are on the same continuum? How does it matter? Rockets today are single use. They are thrown away after use. Imagine if cars and airplanes were single use. After manufactured you drive them to their destination and scrap them. Now suddenly comes a guy with the novel idea of reusing cars and airplanes for multiple rides. What would your response be? Attacking him and those who champion his innovation as technology freaks ruining the planet? Your arguments are deranged. Reuse and recyle are good things not the horrible monstrosities you try to characterize them as.

Elon Musk did not create car culture. You seem to have focused all your hate on one man. As if all evil of this world eminates from this guy. That Chinese people drive cars is not the fault of Tesla. In all developing countries people crave cars as status symbols and to show that they are now developed. You cannot pin this squarly on the West as much of the West has worked hard to scale back car culture and grow bicycle culture. Many have warned China about the path they have pursued with massive highways and car oriented culture.

Although I suppose you could blame the US which through Hollywood spread their car culture around the world. Yet the US is but a small part of the West. Most Western countries are actively working to limit car culture. Here in Europe we kind of have to. Many of us live in old cities which cannot handle the kind of massive car culture that swallows cities like LA and Houston. We have tried to preserve our cities all the way back to medieval times. If the Chinese are trying to follow the Western example then why are they bulldozing all their cities and replacing all the old with modern high rises and motorways?

I don't promote Elon Musk's vision of a car culture. That ought to be obvious from this article. If I liked an Muskian car culture then why do I write so critically about car centric American suburbs?

If I am supposedly promoting a car oriented future, then why on Earth am I writing about the benefits of making walkable suburbs with actual activies for children and grownups?

If I am all about cars then why I am I writing about how the Dutch organizing their cities for biking in such glowing terms?

You see that I say one positive thing about Elon Musk, and your zero-tolerance tribalism now demands that I must be put in a box with all the other mindless Elon Musk fans. You are a brilliant example of the toxicity of modern political discourse. A world where everyone demands ideological purity tests. If you fail the test you are declared an ideological enemy.

Can we please stop treating political discourse as a team sport? Pretty please with sugar on top?
