Thanks Markus, what do you think though? I can really only relate to my family and immediate experience. I don't really know if this is how all Norwegians see it.

How did your family deal with this? Did friends dropping by frequently eat dinner at your house or would you have to plan this or do a sort of formal invitation first?

We are more flexible about this today with my children's friends that perhaps my parents were but generally it isn't really a thing that happens much. Most kids are used to going home to eat dinner with their family anyway.
