The history of computing has many odd contradicting trends. E.g. I can remember ever since the 90s how people pushed new “revolutionary” UI paradigms. They tried 3D interfaces, making the desktop look like and actual room etc. All this failed while the command line is still with us. I think a lot of our current UI paradigm really has proven itself at will stay nearly forever. It is a bit like houses today are very similar in shape and function to hundreds of years back.
The principle of railroad is the same as in 1800 etc. But I agree AI will be a revolution for UI but I suspect it will be more like an extension than a replacement.
