The whole point with talking about fjords, which I think you miss is that it gives you a lot of coastline relative to landmass. For instance Africa has coastline too but relative to landmass it has very little.
Fjords meant a larger fraction of Norwegians would live close to the coast compared to many other countries. Denmark is similar but for different reasons: It is made up of many islands which means also there a larger fraction of the population would live close to the sea unlike say France which is a more blob shaped country. Remember a circle is the shape with the largest area relative to circumference. The closer a country is shaped to a circle the less coast it will have in relative terms. Norway has the longest coastline in Europe.
