There are actually many anti-racists who advocate the zero-sum thinking. I have seen several black people in fact who have argued that white people don’t want to get rid of racism because they don’t want to make the sacrifice.

No, those whites who think that are stupid. Racism is not a benefit for anyone. Those who are subject to racism are of course are the biggest losers.

Racism means those facing racism don’t reach their fullest potential. They don’t get the skills and jobs they could otherwise have had. That means less demand for goods and services in the market. Less tax income for the government. Important skilled jobs we need are not done by as many as could have done them. All of that is a loss to everyone who lives in that society.

Not to mention that discrimination breeds social problems, poverty and crime which has a high cost to everyone, most of all to those who face it.

When arguing that white people benefit from racism, one is simply rubbing the errand of white supremacist. One gives white people reasons to reject equality.

It is not that long since similar argument were made regarding gender equality. Men complained that women would take their jobs and unemployment among men would soar. It hasn’t worked out that way. Prejudice isn’t built on rational thinking but on ignorance and fear of the unknown.
