These employers are contradicting themselves. They quote applications saying they are happy to live with their stimulus money... eh why are they applicants then if they are happy with that?
If they apply for a job, then obviously they are interested in more... perhaps Mr. Employer, that what they are trying to tell you is that unless you improve work conditions and pay, we aren't coming to work for you.
When labour markts are bad and wages are low, the employers are all to happy to rub it into everbody's faces that this is just how the market works. But when the market is working against them, they throw a hissy fit.
Putting your health on the line has a cost. 25% of people who get COVID19 get long-COVID19. People are not going to put their health on the line without major compensation in pay.
To Americans, I would like to point out some experienes from my native Norway which is more labour friendly. The massive spread of COVID19 in American meat packing plants, and loss of workers never happened here. Why? Because the working conditions were so much better. That is what you get in a social democracy with strong unions and strong labour legislation.
People working low skilled jobs have had a much easier time getting through the pandemic here than in the US, because they already enjoyed much safer and better work environements.
What American employers are experiencing now, is that unsafe and bad working conditions carry a real cost.
