This argument makes absolutely no sense. Poland and the Baltics are NATO members. If anyone is attacked they can invoke article 5 which binds NATO member countries to come to their aid. Russia knows this setup exists and for that reason would never attack a NATO country.

If Russia believed NATO meant nothing they would not have been so angry about NATO expansion.
