This as an old version of Go with a much slower garbage collector. This is unlikely a problem today.

Anyway I am not sure if this speak in favor of Java. In discussion around this story, I saw several Java guys talking about having exactly the same kinds of problems.

So all this really shows is that manual memory management is great for this case, as that is what Rust does. It is not some kind of validation of Java GC strategy.
