What if Donald Trump Was a Superhero?

“The Boys” tell us a story about a universe where a self centered narcissist like Trump is the most powerful human on the planet. How does that look?

Homelander, the narcissistic ego-maniac version of Superman found in “The Boys”

Lately I have been watching an Amazon Prime show called “The Boys,” based on a comic book series developed by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. This series has got to be one of the best superhero stories I have seen. Usually I think superhero stories are terrible and disappointing.

There has been some noticeable exceptions though. I think Shazam, Kick-Ass, Guardians of the Galaxy, first Iron Man, Heroes and The Umbrella Academy, Jessica Jones and Daredevil on Netflix have show that you can make good superhero stories.

Although they are good for very different reasons. Shazam for instance is pretty goofy and doesn’t really have a deep message or insight of any kind. It is mainly just a lot of fun. The same could be said for Guardians of the Galaxy. The Umbrella Academy is just wonderfully strange and messed up. Kick-Ass feels a bit deeper.

Yet nothing I have seen on the silver-screen beats The Boys in terms of depth. It is just such an excellent take on what is wrong with modern American society and the whole superhero concept itself.
