Disclaimer: This is not a case I have studied in detail, so this will be my thoughts without a lot of deep reflections on all the nuances. Still, I think that to most Scandinavians the case is absolutely bizarre. Not just how it all happened but also what American media has chosen to focus on.
Could this have happened in Scandinavia and if it had, what would the outcome have been?
- It is hard to imagine a person equivalent to Dominick Black existing in Scandinavia. You would not casually hand over a gun — which requires a hard-to-get license — to a teenager, knowing how extremely hard police would come down on you for doing something like that.
- Kyle Rittenhouse is seen walking on the streets with his AR-15 among police, who almost high-five him. It is unthinkable that Scandinavian police would have let a teenager walk around with a gun in an urban zone with massive protests. That is just beyond reckless. At a gun range or out in the woods during hunting season, no problem. But on the street? No way!
- It is unthinkable that a teenager could walk around on the streets in Scandinavia without bystanders calling the police or running away.
- No protester would have run after a guy with a gun in Scandinavia.
