What to Learn From Elon Musk and Steve Jobs

When looking at the leadership, successes and failures of these tycoons, what is the take away for the rest of us?

Both of these men have lessons to teach us but often people pick the wrong lesson to learn. Over the years I have seen leaders who think that they can be Steve Jobs by pushing their employees to the very limit by setting completely unrealistic deadlines while acting like complete assholes and overselling their products.

This is about utterly missing the point. This is about getting men like Musk and Jobs in the most shallow way. A lot of the stuff you see on the surfaces such as stupid tweets or immature behavior is not the recipe for success. It is not like every single thing a successful person does is a contributor to their success. Plenty of successful people do many things which hinder their own progress.

Steve Jobs famously got himself fired from the company he founded, Apple. Part of the reason was that in the early days he was a pretty big asshole. Not just at Apple but also in relation to his own family, such as his daughter Lisa. However he learned to become a better person and was a much better leader when he rejoined Apple years later.
