Where Elon Musk Goes Wrong

Musk has many clever insights but not all insights are equally well informed or researched.

The Wall Street Journal recently interviewed Elon Musk. He has many interesting observations about how to run a company and on challenging conventions in the business community.

However when it comes to his views on government, society and history it shows that he has spent most of his waking hours studying physics, programming, engineering and rocket science. This is one of the dangers in putting brilliant people on a piedestal. We see somehow making exceptional progress in one area of society and automatically think that person should be a guide in all sorts of other areas which they may not have studied at all.

Where Elon Musk Has Been Wrong in the Past

The most glaring example of how wrong Elon Musk can be is his many comments about the corona pandemic. Elon Musk’s False Covid Predictions: A Timeline.

The United States reported just under 2,000 new coronavirus cases in a single day, but Musk predicted the country was headed toward “zero new cases” by the end of April (by Musk’s deadline, daily case counts had topped 20,000).
