Why I Deleted Twitter
Reaching a breaking point
Yes, I know it is called X now, but it is such a dumb name that I refuse to use it. X can mean almost anything and thus writing “X” in the title would be far more confusing to many people than writing “Twitter”.
It is just one of many examples of what is wrong with contemporary Twitter. It has progressed to become an ever more toxic stew that I always planned to get out of but I could never make the leap. Part of it is I believe the cheap dopamine hits interactions on Twitter gives.
I suspect it is a bit like people who are alcoholics mostly know that drinking all that beer is bad for them but they still keep doing it because we humans are good at self-sabotage. We know very well what needs to be done long term, but in the short term we give in to urges and impulses.
That is why I always argued that society should be setup so that it caters to our long term wishes rather than our short term urges and impulses. Don’t let them put chocolate bars at the checkout. Don’t make it too easy to get strong alcohol any time of the day anywhere. You get the picture.
Anyway why quite Twitter yesterday, today or any other day? It was a completely emotional reaction. A buildup over months. It was seeing the deep cynicism, bigotry, heartlessness, anger, trolling and straight…
