Why Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine has Collapsed

Russia isn’t getting anywhere and is taking heavy losses. Tactical and strategic decisions look utterly amateurish. What the hell is going on?

We are getting ever more aerial drone footage of battles between Russian and Ukrainian forces. Western military analysts and soldiers with experience from earlier wars are starting to pitch in on what they see. All of them are scratching their heads and wondering what on Earth is going on. Why is Russia making so many major tactical mistakes?

  1. They failed to secure air superiority before moving in.
  2. Their armored divisions are driving bunched up, making them sitting ducks for Ukrainian ambushes with Javelins, M72, and Bayraktar drones.
  3. No proper scouting before sending in armored divisions.
  4. Failure in coordinating troops attacking on multiple fronts.
  5. Embarrassing logistical problems with tanks running out of fuel and soldiers running out of food.

While scanning different news sites, I have started to see some common themes emerging. In particular, I would like to highlight Alexander Gabuev working for the the Carnegie Endowment think tank.
