Consequences of a Second American Civil War to the World

Both experts who have studied historic civil wars as well as retired American generals are warning about the possibility of an American civil war. How would this play out?

A strongly held belief in the United States is that the 2nd Amendment exists so that the people of the United States can rise up against an illegitimate government.

The storming of the Capitol shows that the possibility of an insurrection and violent civil war is not a merely theoretical consideration. Retired US generals warn of a possible civil war in 2024. Republicans are already passing laws to rig elections in favor of Donald Trump.

However, I will not spend this article writing about the chances of a civil war. Many others have already written about this. Instead, my focus will be on the consequences of a civil war should it ever happen.

Let us be clear about what sort of civil war we are talking about. Forget the old American civil war with large armies facing off each other with clear front lines. That is not what this will be. This will be more like the Troubles in Northern Ireland, the Yugoslav civil war or Intifada in Israel. The people opposing each other don’t live in neatly separated geographical areas.

This will not be a thing that just starts from one day to the next. A storming of Capitol or another important…
