Yeah sorry, the story is a bit all over the place. I have an intention of turning this into multiple articles which are a bit more focused at some point.

Yeah the irony of this debate as far as I see it is that it tends to be the political right which oppose immigration, but since they are in favor of a minimal state with no welfare services, free immigration would actually matter all that much to them.

While the left which favors a more generous state tend to be most positive to immigration. However immigration undermines a welfare state.

As a leftist I do think we have a duty to help refugees, but I cannot imagine having completely open borders. A limited number of people can be given asylum each year, but we cannot be free for all.
