Yes, I am actually very interested in understanding seafaring in that region. E.g. what hindered them from going down a European style path where increasingly larger ships got made capable of carrying large amounts of cargo.

In the 1600 and 1700s a lot of transportation of goods in Asia between Asian countries was actually done on European ships.

I suspect that a key reason is that Polynesia is too far away from everything and not with large enough population to create cities and towns which could have enabled development of larger ships.
