Yes, I didn't cover this in detail. Fusion reactors are obviously safer, but then again the technology itself seems far more complex so I am not sure that is a gain.
As a former nuclear engineer, what is your thoughts on creating things like small molten salt reactors or high temperature gas cooled reactors as opposed to fusion power? I feel that newer fission reactor designs could probably offer us cheap and safe power much sooner than fusion. What is your thoughts on that?
About compact Tokamaks. Yes I have read about the guys with the really strong magnets. It looks very promising. But I suspect that even smaller reactors will initially be quite expensive and take time to master the mass production of as well as getting costs down.
I am curious about your thoughts on that. My thinking is that even a car which I assume will always be smaller than a reactor can be very hard to master the mass production of. One reads a lot of stories about all the work that goes into designing a car for mass production. It is why the cool car prototypes we see seldom make it too production. They are simply not designed in a way suitable for mass production.
